Atlanta, Ga. – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) released the preseason all-conference honors and rankings Wednesday morning ahead of the 2022 Women's Basketball Media Day.

Savannah State center Bria Gibbs was named to the 2022 SIAC Preseason First Team while forward Ta'Quasia Lampkin was named to the 2022 SIAC Preseason Second Team.

The Lady Tigers were voted to finish second in the SIAC East Division behind Benedict—the only team they lost to last year in conference play and the reigning SIAC Champions.

Tuskegee's Ashiala Jackons was named the SIAC Women's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year while teammate JuToreyia Willis was named the SIAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

The preseason honors and rankings are voted on by the SIAC head coaches and sports information directors.

Savannah State women's basketball had an historic 2021-2022 season. They finished 27-3 overall, tying the school record 1977-78 team for the most wins in a single season. Their 14-0 mark to open the season set a new school record for most consecutive wins at the start of the season.

They won the 2022 SIAC East Division Championship with a 14-1 conference record. Head Coach Cedric Baker was named the SIAC Coach of the Year for leading the Lady Tigers to a nearly unblemished conference record.

Although the team finished runner-up at the 2022 SIAC Championship, they garnered the program's second at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Championship, earning the No. 8 seed in the South Region.

The Lady Tigers reached as high as No. 12 in the WBCA Coaches Poll, No. 24 in the D2SIDA Media Poll and No. 6 in the NCAA South Region Poll. All were program bests.

The Lady Tigers began their season on Nov. 26 in Frankfort, Kentucky against Kentucky State.
