Le’Andrea Gillis Named SIAC Player Of The Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – Savannah State guard Le'Andrea Gillis has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Player of the Week, according to a release from the conference office this afternoon.

Gillis earned the accolade following Savannah State's 75-54 win over Lane College on Saturday, Jan. 8. Gillis scored a season-high 27 points in the win. She currently leads Savannah State in scoring this season, averaging 15.9 points a game.

Savannah State women's basketball improved to 11-0 on Monday with a 79-87 win over Edward Waters. The 2021-2022 Lady Tigers have tied the school record for most wins to open a season.

Savannah State travels to Alabama this week to play a makeup game against Spring Hill College. Tip-off for the Jan. 12 game is set for 7 p.m. CST. The Lady Tigers then travel to Fort Valley State on Jan. 15 for another key SIAC game before returning home on Jan. 17 for an SIAC doubleheader against Clark Atlanta. Tip-off in Tiger Arena is set for 5:30 p.m.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of information released stated the Lady Tigers set a new school record for most consecutive wins to open a season with their 9-0 record. That information was incorrect. The 1992-1993 team opened that season 11-0 under Phillip Wallace, now the head women's basketball coach at Miles College.
