SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State softball opens the 2021 season with a doubleheader against Albany State on the Lady Tiger Softball Field Saturday afternoon.

Due to a mandate from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), the game will be closed event. Fans can find the exclusive live stream of the game, free of charge, at ssuathletics.com/watch.

SCOUTING REPORT | SAVANNAH STATE
The Lady Tigers joined the SIAC last year, but have yet to test themselves in their new conference. Prior to getting shutdown by the pandemic, Savannah State was able to play four SIAC games in 2020—three against Paine College and one against Kentucky State.

Although Savannah State won't be able to play for a conference title this year, they will get an opportunity to see where they stand within the SIAC with a 2021 schedule comprised mostly of conference opponents. Today, they get the first glimpse.

Savannah State returns several of its key players from the last year, including junior Jocelyn Lozano and fifth-year senior Shayna Byers. Starting pitchers Allisyn Ferrell and Mikayla Smith both returned this year and will be joined in the circle by junior Tanisha Williams. Among the young team are a number of standout freshmen and sophomores who will play key roles in the 2021 Lady Tigers' squad.

Before their season ended early in 2020, the Lady Tigers were 8-11 overall and 3-1 in SIAC action.

SCOUTING REPORT | ALBANY STATE
Albany State began their season on Feb. 24. They enter today's doubleheader 0-6 on the season, coming of a 2-9 loss to Valdosta State.

The Golden Rams are led at the plate by Sydney Pettus, who's batting .500 with seven hits and two RBI. Destiny Herrera has five hits on the season and three RBI. Kierra Washington leads the pitching staff after three outings. She's allowed 42 runs on 42 hits with eight strikeouts.

Albany State is fielding a young team this year as well, with only two seniors, and primarily composed of a mix of sophomore's and juniors.
