Lady Tigers Drop First Two Matches Of The Season

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- The Savannah State women's tennis team dropped their two opening matches of the season on Feb. 20  against Newberry College and Lander University.
 
In the first match up against Newberry College Savannah State fell 0-7. Amy Griffiths defeated Venus Ubiebi 6-0 in the first position of singles action. In the second position, Ishita Singh defeated Caitlyn Schultz 6-0.
 
Rebecca Gibbons defeated Bria Brembry 6-0 at the third position.  In the fourth position, Rosie Hardield beat Maiya Broughton 6-0. At the fifth position Carlissa Stewart lost to Madison Conwell 0-6, and in the sixth Meredith Ware defeated Sarah Joachim 6-0.
 
The Lady Tigers also fall short in doubles competition. Rosie Hardield and Rebecca Gibbons defeated Venus Ubiebi and Caitlyn Schultz 6-1, Lucy Spice and Amy Griffiths defeated Bria Brembry and Sarah Joachim 6-0. And lastly, Madison Conwell and Ishita Singh defeated Maiya Broughton and Carlissa Stewart, 6-0.
 
The Lady Tigers dropped to a 0-1 on the season while the Lady Wolves improved to 4-0.
 
In the second matchup of the day, Savannah State fell to host school Lander University, 0-7.
 
In singles action, Lindsey Wiggins defeated Venus Ubiebi 6-0. Caitlyn Shultz, playing in the second position, fell to Maria Rey, 0-6. Roberta Armani defeated Bria Brembry, 6-0 in the third position.  In the fourth position, Shea Connelly beat Maiya Broughton 6-0. In the final two courts, Carlissa Stewart lost to Marisa Peterson 0-6, and Catalina Santanders defeated Sarah Joachim 6-0.
 
The Lady Tiger dropped their doubles matches as well.  Roberta Armani and Maria Rey defeated Venus Ubiebi and Caitlyn Schultz 6-3, Lindsey Wiggins and Shea Connelly defeated Bria Brembry and Sarah Joachim 6-0. And lastly, Marisa Peterson and Catalina Santanders defeated Maiya Broughton and Carlissa Stewart 6-0.
 
The Lady Tigers fell to 0-2 on the season after the loss while Lander improved to 3-1.
 
Savannah State will be back in action on March 6 with a home game against USC Sumter set for 1 p.m.
