MOBILE, Ala.- The Savannah State women's tennis squad is taking part in the second SIAC Tennis Roundup at the Mobile Tennis Center. On Wedneday, the Lady Tigers battled both Clark Atlanta and Edward Waters in the first day of competition. Despite battling hard, SSU fell in both matches, dropping a 6-1 decision to Clark Atlanta and 5-2 to Edward Waters.
Nyla Warner won her singles match against Clark Atlanta's Alexandra Turnbough to lead Savannah State.
Warner won with scores of 6-2, 5-7, 13-11.
In other singles matches,
Madeleine Anne Nolan lost her match in three sets (3-6, 6-2, 8-10) while
Sunzahra Banks (1-6, 3-6),
Katelynn Welch (1-6, 0-6),
Amaia Connor (3-6, 2-6) and
Simone Reese (0-6, 0-6) all fell after two sets.
Savannah State lost all three doubles matches with Nolan/Warner falling 3-6, Banks/Connor losing 1-6 and Welch/Reese getting beat 0-6.
Edward Waters defeated Savannah State 5-2 in the day's second matchup.
SSU won two doubles matches and one singles match.
The duo of
Nyla Warner and
Sunzahra Banks won their match 6-4 while
Amaia Connor and
Simone Reese took down their opponents 6-3.
Madeleine Anne Nolan and
Katelynn Welch fell in their doubles match 1-6.
Reese was the lone SSU player to get a singles victory, winning 6-3, 0-6, 10-6.
Nolan lost her match 3-6, 0-6; Warner fell in her match 2-6, 4-6; and Banks lost her match 2-6, 3-6. It took three sets but Connor lost her match 6-2, 1-6, 7-10 while Welch's match wasn't finished with the score being 7-6, 1-2.
Savannah State will battle both Spring Hill and Benedict on Thursday.
