Track Tigers Close Out Indoor Season

COLUMBIA, S.C. The Savannah State women's and men's track & field teams closed out the indoor season at the University of Carolina Open on Feb. 13, competing against some of the best collegiate teams in the nation.

Newcomer Da'Aliyah Johnson led the Lady Tigers in the field with a 4th place finish and a 5.84m leap in the long the jump. Sadrea Mabry recorded a 9th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.15m, followed by teammates Enfinity Marshall (12th), Jaylen Sewell (13th) and Toni Pellington (17th).

In the 60m hurdle preliminaries, Jahvene Walder finished 12th with a time of 9.51. In the high jump, she recorded a season-high leap of 1.56m for a 7th place finish.

In the women's 60m sprint preliminaries, freshman Ravyn Cystrunk placed 25th with a time of 8.06. Cystrunk also competed in the 200m spring with a time of 26.56. Artexis Drake ran a 26.71 in the 200m sprint and recorded a season-high mark in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01:21.

Sophomore Kayla Chance ran in the 800m and secured a time of 2:26.17. Karen Perez placed 17th with a time of 2:41.10.  Chance finished 14th in the 1 mile run with a time of 2:42.65.

Anthony Johnson led the Tigers in the 60m preliminaries with a season-high time of 7.09. Tracy White finished the 60m sprint prelims with a time of 7.29. Johnson also ran a 23.35 in the 200m dash.

Andre Valcin finished 8th in the 400m dash with a time of 49.38, a season high. Camron McClendon ran a 2:07.44 in the 800 meter run fishing just ahead of teammate Djangmah Narhmartey who ran a 2:13.47. McCledon, a freshman, finished 11th in the 1 mile run with a time of 4:56.11, for a season high mark.

In the finals for the 60m hurdles event, Darryl Wiltz finished 6th with a time of 8.39 after an 8th place finish and a time of 8.38 in the preliminaries. Savannah State's 4x300 relay team of White, Valcin, Wiltz and Jordan Davis finished 2nd with a time of 2:31.42.
 
In the field, Solomon Mitchell placed 14th in the long jump with a leap of 6.07m.

The men's and women's track & field teams will open their outdoor season with the Savannah State Eyeopener on Feb. 27 at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
