SAVANNAH, Ga.—Savannah State women's basketball will look to stay perfect today as they host LeMoyne-Owen College in their third Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game of the season.
The Lady Tigers opened their SIAC schedule with back-to-back road wins this past weekend, beating Kentucky State (70-62) and Central State (76-51) to improve to 7-0 and 2-0 in conference.
Bria Gibbs led the team to victory against Kentucky State with her first double-double of the season (18 points, 13 rebounds). Gibbs was named the SIAC Player of the Week for her efforts.
Through seven games, Savannah State is outscoring opponents by 26.2 points a game on average. As a team, they are shooting at a 47.1 percent clip from the field.
Veteran Le'Andrea Gillis leads the team, averaging 12.4 points a game. Azhana Maxwell is averaging 11.1 and Gibb is putting in 10.4 points a game. Gibbs leads the team in rebounds, averaging 6.4 boards a game.
LeMoyne-Owen enters today's contest on a four-game losing streak. They fell to SIAC perennial powerhouse Benedict 52-64 on Monday.
Today's doubleheader will also feature a Toy Drive. Fans can bring a small toy and will receive a discount on tickets at the door.

SAVANNAH, Ga.—Savannah State men's basketball had a rough opening to the season, but have started to shape up, securing their first SIAC win this past Monday in a 68-56 road victory over Central State.
The Tigers are 2-5 overall and 1-1 in conference action. They will look to push out to a winning conference record against a tough LeMoyne-Owen team tonight.
Marcus Scott led the Tigers in their win against Central State and of late has been shooting the lights out, Curry style. Scott is averaging 15.3 points a game, shooting around 40 percent from both the field and beyond the arc.
Just behind Scott in the stats is veteran Trey DeLoach who is averaging 14.0 points a game, shooting at a 45 percent clip from the field. DeLoach leads in rebounds, averaging 6.4 a game.
The big guys have been playing their roles too this year. Forward Daryl Richardson has been a key asset, averaging 9.1 points a game and 5.9 rebounds. In the paint, Andrew Okorodudu has been a force putting up 5.1 points a game and snagging 6.3 rebounds a game.
Savannah State faces a winning LeMoyne-Owen team who busted a three-game win streak in their last outing. They fell to Benedict College on Monday 62-69, but are still 6-3 overall and sitting at .500 in conference action with a 2-2 record.
