Kayla Chance To Run In NCAA Regional Championship

TAMPA, Fla. – Savannah State cross country runner Kayla Chance will continue her incredible season with a postseason run at the 2021 NCAA Division II Cross Country Regional Championships this weekend.

Chance claimed the 2021 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship individual title on October 22 running a 19:29.0 in the women's 5k. The title granted her a chance at a postseason run.

Chance will represent Savannah State and the SIAC at the NCAA South Regional Championship in Tampa, Florida at the Abbey Golf Course on Nov. 6. The women's 6k run is set for an 8:30 a.m. start.

The NCAA Division II Championship is set for Nov. 13 on the same course as the Regionals. If Chance finishes the Regional race in the top 25 as an individual, she'll be selected for the Championship race.

The Savannah native and Jenkins High School graduate opened her cross country season by setting a new school record (18:47) at the Queen City Invite. She was named the SIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for her performance.

Her SIAC Championship title is the first for Savannah State Athletics following the program's return to NCAA Division II and the SIAC. The Tigers competed in multiple sports within the SIAC from 1968 to 2000 before moving to NCAA Division I.
