SAVANNAH, Ga.—In the final non-conference game before they open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action, the Savannah State women's basketball team will look to stay perfect.

Savannah State rolled to 3-0 to open the 2021-2022 season behind some exceptional scoring. They beat NAIA schools Morris College 121-48, College of Coastal Georgia 96-70 and NCAA Division II rival Georgia College 53-44. Over three games they've outscored opponents 270-162, averaging 90.0 points a game.

From the field, the team is managing a .511 clip and are averaging 15.0 steals a game—the mid-court pressure defense playing a huge role in turnover points and runaway leads.

They have three top scorers averaging double-digits so far this season. Veteran Le'Andrea Gillis leads in both defense and offense, averaging 6.0 rebounds and 14.7 points a game. Returner Amari Heard and newcomer Shekinah Howard are both averaging 10.7 points a game, while Bria Gibbs is averaging 10.3 points a game.

The Lady Tigers face off with a 1-3 Claflin team today who are coming off their first and only win of the season—a 81-69 rout of Edward Waters on Nov. 22.

Following today's non-conference bout, the Lady Tigers open an 8-game run of SIAC games. The first, a Nov. 30 game against Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee.
