SAVANNAH, Ga.—Savannah State women's basketball open the 2021 season today with a non-conference game against Morris College.

The Lady Tigers return most of the 2020-2021 team this season with a few of additions. Although last fall was cancelled due to COVID, the Lady Tigers were able to manage a few games in the spring semester earlier this year. They finished the shortened season 5-2 with wins over Allen, Albany State and Fort Valley State.

Top scorer Le'Andrea Gillis returns for Savannah State along with veterans Ta'Kyla Austin, Amari Heard and Azhana Maxwell.

Middle classmen, Asia Brown, Mia Goolsby, Tabitha Deal, Diamond McGilberry, Autumn Westmoreland, Nyla Allen, Jourdyn Ayers, Bria Gibbs and Paris Thompson return to the court for the Lady Tigers. Joining them are newcomers Ta'Quashia Lampkin, Shekinah Howard and Jashiyah Jones.

In a preseason exhibition game, the Lady Tigers beat the Fort Stewart Bulldogs 114-60 in Tiger Arena.

Savannah State will travel to Brunswick on Monday to face College of Coastal Georgia, before two home games sandwiched around Thanksgiving. They face Georgia College on Nov. 24 and Claflin on Nov. 27.
