SAVANNAH, Ga.- Led by Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year
Myasia Jones, the Savannah State women's basketball team is ready to compete in the 2019 MEAC Tournament.
The Lady Tigers will play South Carolina State on March 12 at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.
SSU enters the tournament as the 10th seed with a 7-18 overall record and a 5-11 MEAC record.
Savannah State averages 63.2 points a game while giving up 69.5 points a night.
Jones anchors the SSU offense by scoring 14.7 points, pulling down 3.1 rebounds, distributing 2.2 assists and getting 2.3 steals a game while
Alexxus Sowell grabs 4.1 rebounds per game.
Jacquece Alston adds 8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.5 steals a game.
This is the last MEAC Tournament for Savannah State, with the school preparing to transition to Division II after the academic year.
South Carolina State is the seventh seed and has a 15-15 overall record and a 8-8 mark in the MEAC.
The Bulldogs are led by Taylor Brown's 13.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
SCSU averages 57.9 points a game while their defense gives up 59.2 points.
The teams split their two games during the regular season with the Bulldogs winning 71-60 on January 26 in Savannah while the Lady Tigers ended the regular season with a 65-64 win in Orangeburg, South Carolina on March 7.
