SAVANNAH, Ga. – After a clear and sunny 36-holes on Monday, the 2019 Savannah State Tiger Fall Invitational was halted on Tuesday as early afternoon thunderstorms suspended play at Crosswinds Golf Club.
The tournament was called shortly after suspension and the final round, which was underway, was called a wash. Winners were declared based on scores from the first 36-holes.
On the men's side, Florida A&M took the title with a team score of 577 (286, 291). North Carolina A&T finished runner-up with a 585, followed by Maryland Eastern Shore (592). Savannah State men's golf finished tied in fourth place with Western Illinois after both teams finished with 597. The Tigers opened with a 306 Monday morning and improved a full 14 strokes in the afternoon, shooting a 291. Chicago State finished sixth, shooting a 605, followed by Morehouse College (700) and Paine College (870).
Florida A&M's Mahindra Lutchman won the individual men's title with a 140, shooting a 68 and 72. North Carolina A&T's Diego Gonzalez was a single stroke behind the leader, finishing with a 141 (72, 69). The Tigers were led by
Trey Odom who finished with a 146 (76, 70) and
Korbin Allan (147).
North Carolina A&T won the women's competition with a team score of 620 (307, 313), followed by Western Illinois (632). The Lady Tigers finished in third with a team score of 668, followed by Hampton University (673).
Christyn Carr won the individual title for the women with a two-round 150, shooting a 73 to open and a 77 in the second round. Natalie Hooper of Western Illinois placed runner-up with a 154. Savannah State was led by
Ja'Davia McCallum who finished tied for fourth with Hampton's Jakari Harris. Both shot a 157.
