ATLANTA, Ga. – Savannah State senior Abbas Abbkar was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Male Runner of the Week, while junior Karen Perez was named the SIAC Female Runner of the Week, according to a press release from the league office Wednesday morning.

In the final meet of the regular season, Abbkar ran a 26:14.83 to finish in second place overall in the 2019 USCB Sand Shark Invitational last Saturday. The Savannah State men's team finished 7th overall on the day with a time of 2:22:23 in the 17-team field.
 
Perez led the Lady Tigers at the USCB Sand Shark Invitational with a time of 20:32.32. The Lady Tigers finished with a time of 1:47:21 in 12th place in the 19-team field, last Saturday.
Savannah State men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Rock Hill, South Carolina on Oct. 25 for the 2019 SIAC Cross Country Championship.
