Valeria Aldarondo wins SIAC Setter of the Week award

ATLANTA, Ga. – Savannah State sophomore Valeria Aldarondo was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Setter of the Week, the conference announced in a press release on Monday.

In a 3-1 win over SIAC foe Clark Atlanta this past week, Aldarondo collected 33 assists and a season-high five aces to help the Lady Tigers improve to 6-7 in conference. The Isabela, Puerto Rico native has become one of SSU's primary offensive weapons this season, playing in 16 matches, racking up 448 total assists. This is the second time this season she has been named SIAC Setter of the Week. She earned the same award the first week of October. 

The Lady Tigers return to action Oct. 22 in a SIAC road game against Benedict College in Columbia, S.C. They return home on Oct. 25 for a non-conference matchup with Middle Georgia State. First serve in Willcox-Wiley Gym on Friday is set for 6 p.m.

Spring Hill's Kassandra Fairly was named the SIAC Offensive Player of the Week after a commanding performance in the NCAA Division II South Regional Crossover, where she led her team to a 3-0 record in the tournament. Fairly's teammate Cassidi Sterrett was named the SIAC Defensive Player of the Week for performance in the tournament.

Kentucky State's Tapanga Moten was named the SIAC Newcomer of the Week after helping her team collect two wins against Central State and Fisk this past week.
