FORT VALLEY, Ga.- Savannah State dropped their third match in a row following Tuesday's 3-0 at Fort Valley State.
The setback gives SSU a 15-9 overall and 11-7 conference record.
FVSU won the opening set 25-15 and followed that with back-to-back wins of 25-12 and 25-15.
Savannah State finished the day with just 23 kills and 22 errors.
In the first set, the Lady Tigers fell behind 5-0 but was able to slice their 10-7 after a pair of kills by
Savannah Everett and a error by the Wildcats. FVSU answered with a 8-1 run to go ahead 18-8. Down by a dozen, SSU had a late 3-0 rally with kills from
Mina Ezikpe and Everett and a error by Fort Valley State before falling by ten points.
An error by the Wildcats gave SSU a 1-0 lead in the second set but Fort Valley State responded with 8-1 run to go ahead by six. Savannah State fell behind 22-9 before adding three points to cut their deficit to 22-12. Everett,
Connelly Smith,
Amiyah Walker and
Nyalah Smith all had kills for SSU in the set.
Trailing 9-2 in the third set, Savannah State put together a 5-0 spurt thanks to two errors by FVSU and two kills by Walker and another by
Connelly Smith. SSU never got any closer the remainder of the set as Fort Valley State pulled away.
Aniyah Parks had 13 digs while
Saniaa Dickey had 12 digs for SSU.
Savannah Everett finished with seven kills, three blocks and one ace,
Amiyah Walker had 12 assists and Mina Ezipke had three blocks.
Savannah State will close out the regular season at home on November 13 against Albany State at 6 p.m.
It will be the final home match for seniors
Saniaa Dickey,
Aaliyah Saunders and
Savannah Everett.
