Softball Travels to Orangeburg For Final Regular Season Games

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (11-20, 6-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) concludes the regular season with a trip to Orangeburg, S.C., for a three-game series against South Carolina State University (1-27, 1-11 MEAC) this weekend.
 
The series starts with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at noon.
 
The Lady Tigers have clinched a playoff spot to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, but are fighting for the third spot.  North Carolina Central University is a game behind SSU, while North Carolina A&T State University is two games behind the Lady Tigers. 
 
NCCU and NCAT square off this weekend in Greensboro, N.C.  With the Lady Tigers winning both series against NCCU (2-1) and NCAT (3-0), Savannah State needs to win two of the three games to be the No. 3 seed heading into the tournament, no matters who wins the series between NCCU and NCAT.
 
The Lady Tigers are led by senior center fielder Brianna Harris with a .417 (43-for-103) batting average, while junior third baseman Cortni Jones has a .353 (30-for-85) batting average and senior right fielder Shelby Eccles has a .325 (26-for-80) batting average.
 
On the mound, senior pitcher Amanda Hallman has a 7-9 record and a 3.89 ERA with 68 strikeouts, while freshman pitcher Tanisha Williams has a 2-3 record with a 3.91 ERA and 15 strikeouts.
 
As a team, the Lady Tigers are hitting .265 (211-for-796) with 127 runs scored, 31 doubles, five triples, 10 home runs and 98 RBIs, while on the mound, SSU is sporting a 4.87 ERA while striking out 110 batters.
 
SCSU's only win of the season came against NCAT on the final game of a three-game series, 3-1 and has lost the last 13 games.  The Bulldogs are led by Jada Richardson with a .301 batting average and Kaneisha Pettiford with a .262 batting average. 
 
On the mound, Jada Lake has a 1-14 record with a 4.61 ERA with 24 strikeouts, while Ragin Prunty has a 0-7 record with a 7.13 ERA. 
 
As team, SCSU is hitting .173 (106-for-613) with 22 doubles, two home runs, 37 RBIs and 47 runs scored, while on the mound, the Bulldogs have a 5.80 ERA with 35 strikeouts.
 
The Lady Tigers begin postseason play with the MEAC Championship from May 9-12 in Ormond Beach, Fla.
