SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (5-12) starts Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule this weekend traveling to Daytona Beach, Fla., to face Bethune-Cookman University (14-18) in a three-game series this weekend to begin a six-game homestand.
The series starts with two games Saturday starting at 1 p.m., and a single game Sunday at noon.
The Lady Tigers are led by senior center fielder
Brianna Harris with a .462 (24-for-52) batting average, while junior third baseman
Cortni Jones has a .390 (16-for-41) batting average and senior right fielder
Shelby Eccles has a .372 (16-for-43) batting average.
On the mound, freshman pitcher
Tanisha Williams pitched her first game last time out pitching a complete shutout game against The Shore scattering four hits and recording seven strikeouts to record a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, while senior pitcher
Amanda Hallman has a 3-5 record with a 5.00 ERA and 27 strikeouts.
As a team, the Lady Tigers are hitting .283 (112-for-396) with 74 runs scored, 16 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 66 RBIs, while on the mound, SSU is sporting a 5.78 ERA while striking out 82 batters.
The Wildcats have lost the last three games and are led by Ryan Jackson with a .370 (37-for-100) batting average with 12 home runs and 27 RBIs, while Jacki Smith has a .333 (27-for-81 batting average and Iesha Waters has a .330 (31-for-94) batting average. On the mound, Alexis Bermudez has a 5-6 record with a 3.76 ERA and 30 strikeouts, while Victoria Guzman has a 4.35 ERA with 4-6 record and 50 strikeouts.
As team, BCU is hitting .292 (246-for-843) with 31 doubles, 16 home runs, 124 RBIs and 162 runs scored, while on the mound, the Wildcats have a 4.28 ERA with five saves and 112 strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers finish the roadstand with a trip to Durham, N.C., for a three-game series against North Carolina Central University next weekend.
