SAVANNAH, GA.-Savannah State University will open up the 2017 cross country season in Daytona Beach, Fla. at the Asics Embry-Riddle Classic on Saturday, September 16 at 7:20 am.
The 2017 SSU women's team is comprised of seven runners and the men's squad has six runners.
On the women's side, SSU returns
Danielle Derricho,
Miara Elmore,
Iycis Hammock, Tyneisha Quarterman, and
Cayla Williams. Elmore is the eldest of the group as a senior, Quarterman is junior and Derricho, Hammock, and Williams are sophomores.
The newcomers this season include
Ashley Devert  and
Calandra Jones. Devert comes to SSU from Loganville High School in Loganville, GA and Jones comes from West Laurens High School in Dublin, GA.
For the men's side, SSU returns
Abbkar Abbas,
Sahlu Atakilti, and
Cameron Pack. All three of the men's returns are sophomores.
The newcomers include Suheib Mohamed,
Terrance Sessoms, and
Ermias Tewolde. Sessoms comes to the Tigers from Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville, Fla. Mohamed and Tewolde are both from the Georgia but they come from different high schools. Tewolde comes from Druid Hills High School in Atlanta and Mohamed comes from Clarkston High School in Clarkston, Ga.
Mohamed will be reuniting with two of his former teammates from high school, Abbas and Atakilti.
