SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (1-34) travels to Statesboro, Ga., to face Georgia Southern University (22-22) in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. at the Eagle Field at GS Softball Complex Wednesday.
Sophomore third baseman
Cortni Jones leads the team with a .500 (21-for-42) batting average, while senior right fielder
Alexis Singleton is batting .330 (35-for-106) and sophomore first baseman
Elizabeth Humes is batting .291 (16-for-55).
On the mound, senior pitcher
Amanda McDowell has an 8.44 ERA with eight complete games and 82 strikeouts, while sophomore
Faith Dickerson has a 10.02 ERA with three complete games and 19 strikeouts.
As a team, the Lady Tigers are hitting .236 with 36 extra base hits and 85 runs scored, while on the mound, SSU has a 10.01 ERA with 12 complete games and 107 strikeouts.
Georgia Southern has lost three of the last four games, including going 1-2 against Texas State University the last time out. The Eagles are led by Emily Snider with a .393 (53-for-135) batting average, Mekhia Freeman with a .336 (44-for-131) batting average and Lydia Witkowski with a .313 (41-for-131) batting average.
On the mound, Dixie Raley has a 3.03 ERA with 13 complete games and 123 strikeouts and Kierra Camp has a 5.12 ERA with six complete games and 41 strikeouts.
As a team, the Eagles are hitting .267 with 89 extra base hits and scored 198 runs, while on the mound, GS has a 4.36 ERA with 19 complete games and 176 strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers return home for the final series of the season against South Carolina State University this weekend at the Lady Tiger Softball Field. The two teams square off in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at noon for Senior Day.
