SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State men's distance medley team of freshman
Abbas Abbkar, sophomore
Andre Houser-Cross, junior
Elijah West and freshman
Cameron Pack set a school-record Saturday with a time of 10:33.77 to finish second in the event at the Savannah State Relays at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
The previous record was 10:34.56 set by Etchien Assinzo, Gabriel Davis, Reuben Isreal-McBee and Tyrone McCoy set at the SCSU Relay on April 10, 2010.
The men's track team recorded six other top-five finishes. Houser-Cross finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.14, while sophomore
Morgan Ellis-Foster won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.13 and finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles preliminary round with a time of 15.32. Freshman
Isaiah McKisson finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.35 and finished second in the 110-meter hurdles preliminary round of 14.84 and finished second in the finals with a time of 14.92.
Freshman
Gabriel Woods finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.45, while Savannah State's 4x100-meter relay team won the event with a time of 41.36, while Savannah State's 1,600 spring medley team of senior
Justin Leggett, sophomore
Nigel Brown, Houser-Cross and Abbkar won the event with a time of 3:32.49.
The men's field team recorded nine top-five finishes. Sophomore
LaRon James won the long jump with a distance of 7.22 meters (23-8.25) and finished fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 13.55 meters (44-5.5), while sophomore
Malik Franklin won the triple jump with a distance of 14.82 meters (48-7.25) and finished second in the long jump with a distance of 7.09 meters (23-3.25).
Junior
Robert Simmons finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.28 meters (20-11.25), while sophomore
Donterious Copeland finished third in the long jump with a jump of 13.87 meters (45-6.25). Freshman Konin Assinzo won the discus throw with a throw of 39.55 meters (129-9), finished second in the shot put with a distance of 12.30 meters (40-4.25) and finished third in the hammer throw with a distance of 30.79 meters (101-0).
The women's track team recorded nine top-10 finishes. Savannah State's 4x100-meter relay team of freshman
Jada Morgan, sophomore Tyneshia Quarterman, freshman Iycis Hammond, and freshman
Cayla Williams won the event with a time of 48.03, while Savannah State's 4x200-meter relay team of Morgan, Williams, Quarterman and Hammond won the event with a time of 1:50.37.
Freshman
Brenda Johnson finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles preliminary round with a time of 15.90 and finished seventh in the finals with a time of 16.53, while junior
Miara Elmore finished eighth in the preliminary round with a time of 16.74 and finished sixth in the finals with a time of 16.45 and freshman
Danielle Derricho finished 10
th in the 100-meter hurdles preliminary round with a time of 17.49 and finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.53, followed by Elmore's fifth place finish with a time of 1:14.64.
The women's field team recorded six top-five finishes. Junior
Ravyn Mike finished second in the long jump with a distance of 5.19 meters (17-0.5) and finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 10.63 meters (34-10.5). Freshman
Bryshea Jackson finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 5.12 meters (16-9.75) and finished fifth in the triple jump of 10.62 meters (34-10.25) and Elmore finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.73 meters (35-2.5) and finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 5.10 meters (16-8.75).
Other men's track results include junior
Randolph Barratt's 15
th finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.60, followed by sophomore
Markendy Pierre finished 17
th with a time of 55.26. Woods finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in a preliminary round with a time of 16.02 and finished sixth in the finals with a time of 15.37.

Ariel Holmes' 15
th place in the discus throw with a throw of 22.92 meters (75-2) and finished 15
th in the shot put with a distance of 8.52 meters (27-11.5) and finished 13
th in the hammer throw with a throw of 22.53 meters (73-11). Sophomore Faith Shears finished sixth in the hammer throw with a throw of 35.06 meters (115-0).
The men's and women's track and field teams host the third consecutive outdoor weekend with the Tiger Orange and Blue Saturday at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
