SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State hosted and won the Orange & Blue Relays on Saturday at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
The Tigers won six events while placing second in five events and earning the bronze in six events.
Savannah State won four field events with
Evan Guyton winning two and
Xavier Wilson and
Dominique Bailey winning one each.
Guyton captured the shot put (14.48m) and the discus (46.61m) while Wilson won the triple jump (14.15m) and Bailey won the pole vault (3.08m).
Jaden-Wayne McPhearson came in first in the 800m run (2:00.22) and Tayshaun Williams won the 1500m race (4:32.00).
Robert Estabrook came in second in the javelin but this throw of 48.46m set a new school record in the event, breaking the old record he set last month.
Others who came in second in their events were
Jakobe Mobley in the high jump (2.08m),
D'Anthony Glover in the long jump (6.59m),
JahKhai St Louis in the 200m (22.01) and
Braylin Grier in the 400m (48.79).
Finishing third were
Gabriel Hinkins in the 1500m (4:41.47), Eszuanie Earls in the 110m hurdles (15.78),
Xavier Wilson in the long jump (6.45m),
D'Anthony Glover in the high jump (2.03m),
Cameron Frails in the 400m hurdles (56.92) and Yatremeski Johnson in the 200m (22.12).
In the 110m hurdles,
Nehemiah Shanks finished fifth with a time of 16.03 while the 400m hurdles, Earls was fourth with a run of 57.29 and Shanks finished sixth with his run of 57.88.
Johnson came in fifth in the 100m race with a time of 11.27, St Louis finished seventh with his run of 11.45 and Bailey came in 14th with a time of 12.14.
Hinkins posted a time of 21:21.26 to finish sixth in the 5000m race.
In the shot put,
Matthew McWilliams claimed fourth with a toss of 12.08m while in the discus,
Melik Williams came in fifth with a throw of 38.55m while Bailey came in 11th after his throw of 32.15m.
Donovan Holdip's throw of 42.05m was good enough to place him fourth in the hammer throw while
Jordan Scruggs had a toss of 29.22m to finish tenth in the javelin.
In the jumping events, Bailey came in sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.18m while in the high jump,
Raymond McKoy and Bailey both had jumps of 1.88m to finish fifth and sixth respectively.
Savannah State finished the meet with 170 points followed by Brewton Parker (150) and Francis Marion (123) to round out the top three. Other participating teams include Fort Valley State (119), South Carolina Central Christian College (18), Up To Speed (9) and Warren Wilson (7).
