SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (0-19) starts an eight-game homestand with Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent University of Maryland Eastern Shore (2-10) Tuesday starting at 1 p.m. at the Lady Tiger Softball Field in a nonconference battle.
Senior right fielder
Alexis Singleton has a .386 (22-for-57) batting average and went 9-for-10 last weekend in the Mercer Bears Classic, while junior second baseman
Brianna Harris has a .314 (16-for-51) batting average and went 5-for-9 (.556) last weekend.
On the mound, sophomore pitcher
Faith Dickerson leads the team with a 13.50 ERA with 12 strikeouts, while senior pitcher
Amanda McDowell has a 14.40 ERA with 31 strikeouts.
As a team, the Lady Tigers are hitting .245 with 23 extra base hits and 43 runs scored. On the mound, SSU has a 15.09 ERA with six complete games and 49 strikeouts.
Maryland Eastern Shore has lost the last three games, including going 0-2 at Delaware State University to open MEAC play. The Hawks are led by Samantha Casarez and Sarah Maldonado with a .333 (11-for-33) batting average each, while Adrienne Guerra has a 3.03 ERA with 36 strikeouts, while Erin Hallman has a 5.69 ERA with 20 strikeouts.
As a team, the Hawks are hitting .191 with 13 extra base hits with 24 runs scored, while on the mound, MDES has a 4.39 ERA with eight complete games and 56 strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers continue the homestand with a three-game series against Bethune-Cookman University for the MEAC opener this weekend. SSU plays a doubleheader Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. and a single game Sunday at noon at Lady Tiger Softball Field.
