SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (0-16) returns to the field after having 19 days off traveling to Macon, Ga., for the second time this season for the Mercer Bears Classic Saturday and Sunday.
 
The Lady Tigers face Eastern Illinois University (13-12) at 9:30 a.m. and Belmont University (19-5) at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, followed by Eastern Michigan University (8-9) at 11 a.m. and host Mercer University (12-15) at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
 
Senior left fielder Chasney Jenkins leads SSU with a .300 (12-for-40) batting average with six runs scored and four RBIs, while senior right fielder Alexis Singleton is batting .277 (13-for-40) with five runs scored and four RBIs, while junior second baseman Brianna Harris is batting .262 (11-for-42) with three runs scored and six RBIs.
 
As a team, the Lady Tigers are batting .240 with 38 runs scored 22 extra base hits.  On the mound, Savannah State has a 15.23 ERA with four complete games and with 42 strikeouts. 
 
Eastern Illinois enters the tournament losing five of the last seven games.  The Panthers are led by Mia Davis with a .426 (29-for-68) batting average, while Taylor Monahan has a .370 (27-for-73) batting average. On the mound, Michelle Rogers has a 7-5 record with a 2.31 ERA, while Jessica Wireman has a 4-7 record with a 3.12 ERA.  As a team, EIU is hitting .299 with 117 runs scored and with 48 extra base hits and on the mound, EIU is sporting a 2.62 ERA with five complete games and has a 137 strikeouts.
 
Belmont enters the tournament winning four of the last five games.  The Bruins are led by Kayla Wells with a .381 (24-for-64) batting average, while Chelsey Deloney has a .358 (24-for-67) batting average.  On the mound, Brooklin Lee has a 7-2 record with a 2.01 ERA, while Ashley Johnson has a 5-1 record with a 2.70 ERA. As a team, BU is hitting .326 with 134 runs scored and 52 extra base hits, while on the mound, BU is sporting a 3.26 ERA with nine complete games and 124 strikeouts.

Eastern Michigan enters the tournament losing the last three games.  Taylor Wagner leads the team with a .442 (19-for-43) batting average, while Michelle Kriegshauser is batting .400 (22-for-55).  On the mound, Abbie Minsker has a 2-1 record with a 2.01 ERA, while Trisha Turjillo has a 5-4 record with a 3.98 ERA.  As a team, EMU is hitting .281 with 61 runs scored and 21 extra bases, while on the mound, EMU has a 5.20 ERA with three complete games and 50 strikeouts.  
 
Mercer enters the tournament on a four-game losing streak.  The Bears are led by Taylor Miller with a .426 (29-for-68) batting average and Meghan Rud has a .408 (40-for-98) batting average.  On the mound, Megan Bilgri has a 5-2 record with a 3.02 ERA, while Stella Preston has a 3-5 record with a 4.03 ERA.  On the mound, MU is batting .286 with 137 runs scored and 50 extra base hits, while on the mound, MU has a 4.34 ERA with 12 complete games and has 97 strikeouts.
 
Savannah State and Mercer has face each other earlier this season with the Bears coming away with 8-1 and 21-2 wins in the last tournament for the Lady Tigers.
 
The Lady Tigers return home for an eight-game homestand starting with a doubleheader against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent of University of Maryland Eastern Shore Tuesday at 3 and 5 p.m. at Tiger Softball Field.
