SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University women's basketball team (2-7) plays its final game before Christmas with a trip to Greenville, N.C., to face East Carolina University (6-5) Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Junior forward Kaylee Allen leads the Lady Tigers with 12.8 points per game, which ranks 11th in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and averages 4.1 rebounds, while junior guard Donasja Scott averages 12.6 points, which ranks 12
th in the conference, and 6.8 rebounds. Scott averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting 40.7 percent from the floor against two top-20 teams last week.
Freshman center Alexxus Sowell leads the team with 8.8 rebounds per game, which ranks second in the MEAC, while freshman guard Heniaya Moton averages 7.6 points.
East Carolina is coming off an overtime loss to University of Texas at El Paso (79-93), but had won five previous games, including two wins against MEAC opponents of Norfolk State University (51-46) and North Carolina Central University (73-61). The Pirates are led by Thais Oliveira with 11.4 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game, Ariyana Williams averages 10.0 points and Dominique Claytor averages 7.8 points and 6.1 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers return from Christmas break and travels to Jacksonville, Fla., to face Jacksonville University Sunday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. to finish a six-game roadstand.
