SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University men's and women's golf teams starts Tiger Week with the Tiger Fall Invitational Monday and Tuesday at the Crosswinds Golf Course.
Seven men's golf team competes in the tournament from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The six full members of the MEAC are Bethune-Cookman University, North Carolina Central University, Florida A&M University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T State University and the Tigers. The one associate member is Augusta University.
Last year,
Adam Walden won the tournament by four strokes and the team finished second. This year, the Tigers won the UMES Collegiate Golf Challenge earlier this month with junior
Zach Otto winning the individual award.
On the women's side, five team competes in the tournament from the MEAC. Bethune-Cookman, NCAT, Hampton University and Maryland Eastern Shore competes with the Lady Tigers.
Last season, senior
Rachele Orme finished third at the invitational, while the Lady Tigers came in third. This year, the Lady Tigers also won the UMES Collegiate Golf Challenge with Orme winning the individual award.
This tournament is the final fall tournament for both the men's and women's golf teams. The men's golf picks up in February with the William & Mary Spring Invitational in Savannah from Feb. 17-18, while the women's golf doesn't pick up until March 3-4 for the Bethune-Cookman Spring Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla.
