NORFOLK, Va. – Senior
Dolphurs Hayes of the Savannah State University men's field team was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Field Performer of the Week, announced by the conference Wednesday.
The Albany, Ga., native won the pole vault at the Lowcountry Collegiate with a distance of 4.57 meters (15-0), which is the best distance in the MEAC this season.
His previous best this season was 4.47 meters (14-8) at the Tiger Twilight and at the Tiger Orange and Blue Classic meets at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
Hayes won the pole vault at the MEAC Indoor Championship earlier this season in February with a mark of 4.42 meters (14-6).
This season, Hayes has finished in first place in four of the five events this season when placing a mark in the event.
The men's and women's track and field team returns to action Saturday with the Holy City Relays in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
