SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (4-10) returns home for a doubleheader against Presbyterian College Wednesday starting at 1 p.m. at the Lady Tiger Softball.
Junior left fielder
Chasney Jenkins leads the team with a .395 (15-for-38) batting average with 11 runs scored, a double, a triple, a home run and seven RBIs with a slugging percentage of .533 and an on-base percentage of .531. The East Moline, Ill., native was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday for her efforts in five games at the Charleston Southern Tournament.
Jenkins batted .500 (6-for-12) with five runs scored, three RBIs, a double, a triple and a home run while sporting a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage. She recorded a hit in each of the five games and recorded a batting average of .500 or better in four of the five games.
Sophomore center fielder
Shelby Eccles is second on the team with a .382 (13-for-34) batting average with four runs scored, two doubles and three RBIs with a slugging percentage of .441 and an on-base percentage of .400.
Freshman third baseman
Cortni Jones, who was named College Sports Madness MEAC Player of the Week on Tuesday, is third on the team with a .359 (14-for-39) batting average with seven runs scored, a double, two home runs and 12 RBIs with a .538 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .390.
Freshman pitcher
Kasie Johnson (1-1) leads the Lady Tigers with a 0.93 ERA giving up two earned runs on 15.0 innings pitched, holding opponents to a .161 batting average, while sophomore pitcher
Ashley Eichenlaub is second with a 6.05 ERA, giving up 19 earned runs in 22.0 innings pitched.
Junior pitcher
Amanda Hallman (3-3) is sporting a 6.60 ERA, giving up 38 earned runs in 40.1 innings pitched. In her last two starts, Hallman recorded a 1.50 ERA, giving up three earned runs in 14.0 innings pitched with two complete games with eight strikeouts.
As a team, the Lady Tigers are hitting .281, which ranks fourth in the MEAC and is averaging 5.64 runs per game, which ranks fifth in the conference. SSU is sporting a 5.64 ERA, which ranks fifth in the conference, fourth in scoring with 3.93 runs per game and is third with a .378 slugging percentage in the conference.
Presbyterian went 2-2 at the Jacksonville Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., last weekend with wins over Albany (11-10), St. Bonaventure (9-6) and losses to Harvard (7-2) and host Jacksonville (2-1). Hope Rogers leads the Blue Hose with a .417 (15-for-36) batting average with seven runs scored, six home runs and 11 RBIs with a .944 slugging percentage and a .475 on-base percentage.
Erin Ruff is sporting a .355 (11-for-31) batting average with six runs scored, two home runs and six RBIs with a .581 slugging percentage and an .474 on-base percentage, while Megan Anderson has a .333 (10-for-30) batting average with two runs scored, two doubles, a home run and four RBIs.
On the mound, Katie Brown (3-1) leads PC with a 3.32 ERA giving up 12 earned runs in 25.1 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts, while Sydney Seigler (2-4) has a 3.96 ERA giving up 20 earned runs in 35.1 innings pitched.
As a team, PC is hitting .279 (81-for-290) with 46 runs scored, 12 doubles, a triple, 14 home runs and 42 RBIs and on the mound, is sporting a 4.40 ERA giving up 41 earned runs in 71.0 innings pitched with 39 strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the Tiny Laster Tournament this weekend, starting with Grambling State Friday at 5 p.m.
