SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University women's basketball team (7-16, 4-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) finishes a two-game roadstand in Washington, D.C., against Howard University (5-19, 3-8 MEAC) in Burr Gymnasium Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Last season, the Lady Tigers defeated Howard 70-59 in Tiger Arena on Feb. 21 in the only matchup of the season.
 
After 23 games, the Lady Tigers are shooting .357 (447-for-1252) from the floor, including shooting .279 (91-for-326) from the 3-point line.  SSU is averaging 50.9 points per game, 36.8 rebounds per game and have recorded 226 assists, 195 steals and 97 blocks.  SSU is holding opponents to a .365 field goal percentage, which ranks first in the MEAC and 45th in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, ranks third in the MEAC averaging 4.2 blocks per game, which ranks 90th in the NCAA and ranks second in the MEAC with 94 blocks, which ranks 108th in the NCAA.
 
The Lady Tigers also ranks 96th in the NCAA in holding opponents to a 60.1 points per game scoring average, which ranks fourth in the MEAC and 108th in the NCAA in turnovers forced with 17.48, which ranks sixth in the MEAC.
 
Junior guard Kenyata Hendrix leads the team with 12.2 points per game, which ranks ninth in the MEAC.  Over the last eight games, Hendrix is averaging 15.6 points per game on 44-for-123 (.358) shooting, including shooting 22-for-64 (.344) from the 3-point line, while averaging 3.5 rebounds per game and 2.1 assists per game.
 
The Carrollton, Ga., native has made 287 career field goals, which ranks her in eighth place in school history in the Division I era and needs nine made field goals to move into seventh place.  Hendrix ranks second in school history with 128 made 3-pointers in her career and needs 26 made 3-point field goals to move into first place and ranks third with 47 3-pointers made in a single season and needs two made field goals to surpass the 48 made 3-point field goals that she set last season.
 
Junior center Tiyonda Davis leads the team with 8.1 rebounds per game, which ranks fifth in the MEAC and with 2.83 blocks per game, which ranks second in the MEAC and 18th in the NCAA.  Davis has recorded 65 blocks, which ranks second in the conference and 21st in the NCAA and is averaging 6.5 points per game.
 
The Athens, Ga., native ranks second in school history with 185 career blocks and needs 39 blocked shots to move into first place and the 65 blocks this season, ranks fourth most in school history in a single season and needs three blocked shots to move into third place, which she set recorded 67 blocked shots last season.  Davis also ranks second in school history with 667 career rebounds and needs 18 rebounds to move into first place.
 
Over the last 10 games, Davis is averaging 9.5 points per game on 42-for-73 (.575) shooting with 10.5 rebounds per game and 3.5 blocks per game. 
 
Junior forward Jeremica Edwards averages 6.5 points per game on 60-for-136 (.441) shooting from the floor with 3.9 rebounds per game, while junior guard Rhianna Warren adds 6.2 points per game on 48-for-146 (.329) from the floor, including 20-for-71 (.282) from the 3-point line with 2.7 rebounds per game.
 
In conference play, Hendrix is leading the team with 13.6 points per game, which ranks eighth in the MEAC and averaging 3.6 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per game, while Davis is leading the team with 9.8 rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the MEAC, and with 3.3 blocks per game, which ranks third in the conference and is averaging 8.3 points per game on 44-for-79 (.557) shooting, which ranks second in the conference.
 
The last time out, the Lady Tigers fell to South Carolina State 56-43 in Orangeburg, S.C., Saturday.  Davis led recorded a game-high 13 rebounds with six points and three blocks, while Edwards recorded a game-high 13 points off the bench with five rebounds.
 
Since losing to a winless Norfolk State in a 110-108 double overtime, Howard has gone 2-1, including a win over league-leading Hampton 83-77 in overtime.  The last time out, the Lady Bison fell to Maryland Eastern Shore 79-57.  Victoria Gonzales leads HU with 20.7 points per game and with 8.6 rebounds per game, while Imani Bailey averages 17.3 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game.
 
As a team, the Lady Bison is shooting 531-for-1473 (.360) overall and 97-for-360 (.269) from the 3-point line and is averaging 64.5 points per game and 38.1 rebounds per game with 263 assists, 63 blocks and 182 steals.
 
The Lady Tigers return home against South Carolina State University (10-12, 6-6 MEAC) Saturday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
