Last season, the Lady Tigers swept the two-game series with a 61-53 win on Feb. 14 in Tiger Arena and a 55-52 win on Feb. 28 in Orangeburg, S.C.
After 22 games, the Lady Tigers are shooting .360 (429-for-1191) from the floor, including shooting .287 (90-for-314) from the 3-point line. SSU is averaging 51.2 points per game, 36.9 rebounds per game and have recorded 221 assists, 188 steals and 94 blocks. SSU is holding opponents to a .363 field goal percentage, which ranks first in the MEAC and 41
st in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, ranks third in the MEAC averaging 4.3 blocks per game, which ranks 88
th in the NCAA and ranks second in the MEAC with 94 blocks, which ranks 90
th in the NCAA.
The Lady Tigers also ranks 99
th in the NCAA in holding opponents to a 60.3 points per game scoring average, which ranks fourth in the MEAC and 98
th in the NCAA in turnovers forced with 17.64, which ranks sixth in the MEAC.
Junior guard
Kenyata Hendrix leads the team with 12.5 points per game, which ranks ninth in the MEAC. Over the last seven games, Hendrix is averaging 17.1 points per game on 42-for-112 (.375) shooting, including shooting 21-for-57 (.368) from the 3-point line, while averaging 4.0 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per game.
The Carrollton, Ga., native recorded four made field goals to give her 127 career made field goals, which moves her into second place in school history in the Division I era and needs 27 made field goals to move into first place. The 46 made 3-pointers this season ranks third in school history and needs three made 3-pointers to move into second place to pass her mark of 48 last season.
Junior center
Tiyonda Davis leads the team with 7.9 rebounds per game, which ranks sixth in the MEAC and with 2.82 blocks per game, which ranks third in the MEAC and 22
nd in the NCAA. Davis has recorded 62 blocks, which ranks second in the conference and 18
th in the NCAA and is averaging 6.5 points per game.
The Athens, Ga., native ranks second in school history with 182 career blocks and needs 42 blocked shots to move into first place and the 62 blocks this season, ranks tied for fourth most in school history in a single season and needs six blocked shots to move into third place. Davis also ranks second in school history with 654 career rebounds and needs 31 rebounds to move into first place.
Over the last nine games, Davis is averaging 9.9 points per game on 39-for-63 (.619) shooting with 10.2 rebounds per game and 3.6 blocks per game.
Junior guard
Rhianna Warren is coming off a career-day against Coppin State on Monday (2/8). The Douglasville, Ga., native recorded a career-high 19 points, eight rebounds and eight made field goals. Warren is averaging 6.4 points per game on 47-for140 (.336), including 20-for-70 (.286) from the 3-point line.
In conference play, Hendrix is leading the team with 14.4 points per game, which ranks seventh in the MEAC and averaging 3.9 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game, while Davis is leading the team with 9.5 rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the MEAC, and with 3.3 blocks per game, which ranks third in the conference and is averaging 8.5 points per game on 41-for-69 (.594) shooting, which ranks first in the conference.
The last time out, the Lady Tigers defeated Coppin State 57-55 Monday after Hendrix's two made free throws with three seconds left in the game. Warren led SSU with career-highs 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting and with eight rebounds, while Hendrix added 17 points and six rebounds and Davis added 10 points and six rebounds.
South Carolina State has lost three of its last four games with its only win against Coppin State 67-63. Brittany Drumgoogle leads the Lady Bulldogs with 9.6 points per game and averages 3.6 rebounds per game, while Amber Howard is averaging 8.3 points per game and 2.2 rebounds per game. Jasmine Coleman leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per game and is averaging 7.0 points per game.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs are shooting 430-for-1227 (.350) overall and 102-for-343 (.297) from the 3-point line and is averaging 56.8 points per game and 38.3 rebounds per game with 226 assists, 79 blocks and 186 steals.
The Lady Tigers finish the two-game roadstand with Howard University (4-18, 2-7 MEAC) on Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
