SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University women's basketball team (2-5) finishes the season-high three game homestand with Jacksonville State University (4-4) Saturday at 4 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
The last time out, the Lady Tigers fell to Georgia Southern 50-45 Thursday night in Tiger Arena. SSU outrebounded GS 57-41. Graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss led SSU with a double-double with 17 points and a career-high 11 points, while junior guard
Aiyannah Peal added seven points and seven rebounds.
Senior guard
Kenyata Hendrix made three 3-pointers, which gives her 154 career made 3-pointers to set the school record. Hendrix finished with 13 points and four rebounds. The Carrollton, Ga., native also ranks fifth in scoring (958) and fifth in made fields (340).
Senior center
Tiyonda Davis needs four blocks to set the school record in the Division I era and has recorded 220 career blocks. Alisha Nelson recorded 223 career blocks from 2008-12. Davis already has the school record in rebounding with 776 career boards, 92 more than second place. The Athens, Ga., native also ranks ninth in scoring (733) and seventh in made field goals (321).
Davis ranks second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in rebounds per game (10.0) and is second in blocks per game (4.2), which ranks fifth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss leads SSU with 14.0 points per game this season, while Hendrix is second with 10.9 points per game. Davis and senior forward
Jeremica Edwards lead the team with 8.3 rebounds per game, while Davis leads the team 3.6 blocks per game and 1.7 steals per game.
Jacksonville State has won the last two games, including a 66-52 over MEAC opponent Florida A&M. The Gamecocks are led by Briana Benson with 12.0 points per game and with 6.5 rebounds per game, while Ki-Ki Patterson is averaging 8.9 points per game and Tyler Phelion with 7.3 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game.
The Lady Tigers take a week off before traveling to Auburn, Ala., to face Auburn University Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. ET.
