MORROW, Ga. – Savannah State University women's basketball officially turned its attention toward the 2026-27 season Tuesday as head coach Phillip Wallace Jr., along with guards Jayden Boykin and Alayah Birch, represented the Tigers at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Media Day at the Morrow Center.

The annual event brought together coaches and student-athletes from across the SIAC to preview the upcoming season, meet with media and discuss their respective programs ahead of the start of conference play. Savannah State's contingent participated in the women's basketball session as Wallace, Boykin and Birch discussed the program and preparations for the upcoming campaign.

Savannah State enters the season with something to prove after being selected to finish 11th in the SIAC in the conference's preseason predicted order of finish.

Wallace and the Tigers will look to outperform those preseason expectations with a revamped roster that features a mixture of returning players and newcomers.

Boykin, a junior guard from Franklin, Georgia, and Birch, a sophomore guard from North Charleston, South Carolina, were selected to join Wallace as Savannah State's student-athlete representatives at Media Day. Both are expected to be important pieces of the Tigers' backcourt as Savannah State prepares for the new season.

During their Media Day interview, Wallace, Boykin and Birch discussed the upcoming campaign and the work taking place within the program as the Tigers prepare to compete in the SIAC.

The appearance capped a two-day conference experience for the Savannah State contingent. On Monday, members of the men's and women's basketball programs participated in the SIAC Basketball Community Service Day, with Savannah State representatives visiting Sequoyah Middle School in Riverdale, Georgia, for a Collegiate Chat/Fireside Conversation.

Savannah State will get its first opportunity to compete against an outside opponent on Nov. 9 when the Tigers travel to Statesboro, Georgia, for an exhibition against NCAA Division I Georgia Southern. The regular season opens Nov. 19 when Savannah State hosts LeMoyne-Owen at 5:30 p.m. inside Tiger Arena.

The 2026-27 schedule features 22 regular-season contests and 11 home games as Savannah State begins another season of SIAC competition under Wallace.
