SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University women's basketball team (2-3) starts a three-game homestand with Jacksonville University (4-2) Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
The last time out, the Lady Tigers fell to Kennesaw State 72-60 Saturday in Kennesaw, Ga. Senior center
Caprisha Treadwell led the team with 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting with five rebounds, while senior guard
Kenyata Hendrix added 13 points and senior forward
Jeremica Edwards added six rebounds and six points.
Hendrix went 3-for-5 from the 3-point line against the Owls to give her 153 career made 3-pointers to tie the school record in the Division I era with Ezinne Kalu. Hendrix also ranks fifth in scoring (943) and fifth in made field goals (335).
Senior center
Tiyonda Davis needs eight blocks to set the school record in the Division I era and has recorded 216 career blocks. Alisha Nelson recorded 223 career blocks from 2008-12. Davis already has the school record in rebounding with 768 career boards, 84 more than second place. The Athens, Ga., native also ranks ninth in scoring (726) and eighth in made field goals (318).
Davis ranks second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in rebounds per game (10.0), which ranks 37
th in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and is second in blocks per game (4.2), which ranks fourth in the NCAA.
Graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss leads SSU with 13.2 points per game this season, while Hendrix is second with 12.2 points per game. Davis leads the team with 10.0 rebounds per game, 4.2 blocks per game and 2.2 steals per game, while Edwards is averaging 9.2 rebounds per game and 7.8 points per game.
Jacksonville has won the last two games and also has defeated MEAC opponent Bethune-Cookman 69-63 on Nov. 13 in Jacksonville, Fla. The Dolphins are led by Sherranda Reddick with 20.7 points per game and is averaging 3.8 rebounds per game, while Christin Mercer is averaging 10.5 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game and Kayla Gordon with 9.3 rebounds per game and 8.8 points per game.
The Lady Tigers continue their homestand with Georgia Southern Thursday at 6 p.m. in Tiger Arena and finishes the homestand with Jacksonville State Saturday at 4 p.m.
