SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University women's basketball team (0-1) hosts Columbia College (1-1) Sunday at 4 p.m. in Tiger Arena for SSU's home opener.
The Lady Tigers have posted a 26-9 record in home openers since the 1981-82 season and has won the last seven home openers. The last home opener lost was a 71-54 loss to Florida A&M on Nov. 20, 2007. Savannah State has won all of the six meetings with Columbia College.
Over the last three seasons, the Lady Tigers have posted a 27-10 (.730) record in Tiger Arena and has posted a 50-44 (.532) record overall.
Senior guard
Kenyata Hendrix made two 3-point field goals to give her 143 in her career, nine from setting the school record in the Division I era. The Carrollton, Ga., native also ranks seventh in field goals made (317) and sixth in points (893).
Senior center
Tiyonda Davis recorded a double-double with 16 points, tying a career-high, and 14 rebounds against Seton Hall University last Friday. The Athens, Ga., native holds the school record in the Division I era with 732 career rebounds and ranks second in blocks (196), eighth in made field goals (305) and 10
th in scoring (691).
The Lady Tigers started the season on the road for the first time since 2007 and fell to Seton Hall, who made the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament last season, 74-60 in South Orange, N.J. Graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss led the way with 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting, including 4-for-6 from the 3-point line, while senior forward
Jeremica Edwards added 13 rebounds and Hendrix added 10 points.
The Koalas are led by Briana Johnson with 17.5 points per game, Morgan Varn with 12.5 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per game and Juliana McAlhany with 11.0 rebounds per game.
The Lady Tigers finishes the two-game homestand with Alabama State University Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Tiger Arena before traveling to Ames, Iowa to face Iowa State University a week later on Nov. 22 at 8 p.m.
