ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The Savannah State University men's cross country team won the 8k at the Bulldog Duels Saturday hosted by South Carolina State University.
Freshman
Sahlu Atakilti was the top finisher for SSU finishing in third place with a time of 26:42.0. Freshman Abbas Abbkar (26:51.7) was fourth, while freshman
Cameron Pack (26:54.2) was fifth, junior
Michael Smith (27:12.1) finished sixth, junior
Kenneth Nealy (29:29.4) finished in 10
th and freshman
Markendy Pierre (32:59.2) was 18
th.
Charleston Southern finished second in the meet followed by Claflin, South Carolina State and Morris.
The SSU women finished fourth in their meet.
Junior
Miara Elmore led the women with a time of 24:31.5 finishing in 10
th overall, while freshman
Danielle Derricho finished 12
th with a time of 24:47.5.
Other SSU women's finishes were: sophomore
Tyneshia Quarterman (29:08.9), junior
Ravyn Mike (29:58.4), freshman Calita Wyatt (32:26.9) and freshman
Brenda Johnson (36:06.5).
Quarterman was 19
th overall while Mike was 20
th, Wyatt placed 22
nd and Johnson finished 26
th.
Charleston Southern won the women's side followed by South Carolina State, SSU and Morris.
The men's and women's teams are back in action Tuesday at 5 p.m. for the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
