NORFOLK, Va. – Five Savannah State University cross country student-athletes were named on the 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team, announced by the conference Thursday.
All five came on the men's team with Randolph Barrett,
Donterious Copeland,
Kenneth Nealy,
Michael Smith and
Elijah West.
Overall, a total of 84 student-athletes were announced on the team. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average that includes sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as transfer student-athletes, who have been in residence at their institution for at least a year.
This season, Barratt has ran in one race at the Gamecock Invitational on Oct. 4 and finished 13
th in the two-mile race with a time of 12:33.4, while Copeland finished 14
th in the event with a time of 13:13.6 in the only race of the season and West finished 16
th at the meet with a time of 13:16.3
Nealy's best performance this season is a 28:59.3 mark in the 8K at the Asics Sand Shark Invitational this past Saturday, while Smith's best performance was at the same meet with a time of 27:06.5.
The men's and women's cross country teams season finishes at the MEAC Cross Country Championships Saturday in Smyrna, Del. The women start at 9:45 a.m., while the met start at 10:30 a.m.
