Men's Cross Country

Tigers Compete in Sand Shark Invitational

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – Savannah State University cross country will run in the University of South Carolina Beaufort 10th annual Asics Sand Shark Invitational on Saturday, October 22 at 9 a.m.
 
The men's team coming off a third place finish at the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C. on Tuesday, October 4.
 
Sophomore Malik Franklin led the men finishing in fifth place with a time of 11:24.07, while right behind him was sophomore Morgan Ellis-Foster placing in sixth place with a time of 11:30.41.
 
For the women, in their last outing, SSU finished fourth overall at the 5k Bulldog Duels in Orangeburg, S.C. on Saturday, October 1.
 
Junior Miara Elmore led the women with a 10th place finish with a time of 24:31.5, while freshman Danielle Derricho finished in 12th place with a time of 24:47.5.
 
Other teams competing this weekend include Morris College, SCAD Savannah, Tennessee Wesleyan, Southeastern in Florida and Dalton State. 
 
USCB's course, which starts and finishes on the Hardeeville school campus on Red Dam Road and loops around a large pond on the adjacent Cooler property, is a flat, fast, and spectator-friendly track. The women's course makes two loops and the men's course makes three loops, meaning fans can catch a glimpse of the runners several times without doing much running themselves. The race-time forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-50s, clear skies, and breezy conditions.
