SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University women's basketball team (5-11, 2-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) begins a four-game roadstand with Hampton University, who is tied with Bethune-Cookman University at the top of the MEAC standings at 4-1 in conference play in Hampton, Va., on Saturday at 4 p.m.
 
Last season, the Lady Tigers defeated Hampton in the only matchup of the season. 61-55, in Tiger Arena on Jan. 24. 
 
After 16 games, the Lady Tigers are shooting .359 (308-for-859) from the floor, including shooting .289 (66-for-228) from the 3-point line.  SSU is averaging 50.9 points per game, 35.3 rebounds per game and have recorded 159 assists, 152 steals and 63 blocks.  SSU is averaging 9.5 steals per game, which ranks first in the MEAC and 59th in the NCAA and is holding opponents to a .376 field goal percentage, which ranks second in the MEAC and 66th in the NCAA.
 
Junior guard Kenyata Hendrix is coming off a career day as she set a career-high with 27 points against Delaware State and tied a career-high with nine made field goals.  Hendrix went 9-for-16 from the floor, including 5-for-10 behind the 3-point line. 
 
The 27 points against DSU gives Hendrix 712 career points, which is tied for eighth place in school history in the Division I era.
 
Junior center Tiyonda Davis is averaging 10.3 points per game, 9.7 rebounds per game, 4.7 blocks per game and 1.7 assists per game over the last three games. 
 
Davis leads the team with 6.9 rebounds per game and with 2.8 blocks per set, which ranks second in the MEAC and 22nd in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.  Her 44 blocks this season ranks second in the MEAC and 25th in the NCAA.
 
Davis needs three made field goals to move into eight place in school history.  She currently has 257 made field goals for a career shooting percentage of .546. 
 
The last time out, the Lady Tigers fell to Delaware State 67-59 to end a season-long five-game homestand.  Hendrix recorded a career-high 27 points, while junior guard Rhianna Warren also added a career-high with 15 points.  Davis led SSU with 12 rebounds and added five points. 
 
Hampton has won the last two games against North Carolina A&T State (55-52) and North Carolina Central (76-42) with both games on the road.  The Lady Pirates only conference loss was a home game against Florida A&M, 66-59, on Jan. 11.
 
The Lady Pirates are led by Malia Tate-DeFreitas, who was voted as the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, with 19.2 points per game and averaged 6.1 rebounds per game, while Kaylah Lupoe leads the team with 7.7 rebounds and is averaging 10.0 points per game.  Ryan Jordan is averaging 5.9 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game.
 
The Lady Tigers stay in Virginia to continue their four-game roadstand against Norfolk State in Norfolk on Monday at 6 p.m.
