Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second consecutive weekend, Savannah State softball swept a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series.
On Sunday, SSU rolled to a series sweep of North Carolina A&T State behind a 9-0, five-inning, run-rule victory. The Lady Tigers opened the series with a doubleheader sweep of the Lady Aggies on Saturday, winning game one 7-6 and game two 19-3.
SSU swept North Carolina Central at home last weekend.
The Lady Tigers improve to 15-15 on the season with the win, and 8-1 in conference play. They are currently first in the MEAC Southern Division standings.
Freshman
Ashley Eichenlaub pitched her first career shutout on Sunday. After 5.0 innings in the circle, she allowed no runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout. The Savannah native improved her pitching record to 10-8 in her debut season.
After two scoreless innings on Sunday, SSU opened the scoring in the top of the third.
Brianna Harris singled to center to reach. Sophomore
Amanda Hallman followed Harris' hit with the team's 50
th home run, and her 7
th of the season, lifting the Lady Tigers to a 2-0 advantage.
Later, Eichenlaub was hit by a pitch with loaded bags, scoring
Amber Hallman, who reached on a single. A single from newcomer
Molly Lillis scored both
Kylie Tierce and
Tia Bolden. SSU took a 5-0 lead on four hits in the inning.
In the fourth,
Alexis Singleton led-off with a single to center and later scored on a passed ball. Later, Amb. Hallman doubled to left, scoring
Torrian Wright and Ama. Hallman to lift the Lady Tigers to an 8-0 lead.
Singleton platted the final run of the game in the fifth inning scoring Lillis, who reached on a double, with a single to center.
In the bottom of the frame, after two quick outs, NCAT kept fighting. Raven Gray singled to right, and Zebresha Blakeney followed that with a single, putting a runner in scoring position. A pop out, however, ended the rally attempt.
Ama. Hallman led the Lady Tigers from the plate. She went 3-for-4 with two RBI on the day. Singleton, Amb. Hallman and Lillis each had two hits in the win. The Lady Tigers outhit NCAT 10-5 in the contest. As a team this year, they are batting .303.
SSU continues the season with their final nonconference game of the season on April 15 against regional rival Georgia Southern. They will stay home for the remainder of the regular season, facing Bethune-Cookman and South Carolina State in three-game, MEAC series.
