Softball Picks Up Three Wins At Tiny Laster Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 IRONDALE, Ala. – In the annual Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) vs. Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tiny Laster Tournament, the Savannah Softball team picked up three wins.

SSU opened the tournament on Friday with an 8-5 victory over Alabama State. On Saturday, they beat Grambling State 7-1 and Alabama A&M 7-3. On Sunday, the Lady Tigers fell to Jackson State 1-4, and Mississippi Valley State 2-3.

 Freshman Ashley Eichenlaub picked up her third pitching win of the year against Alabama State. She went a full 7.0 innings, with five earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout. From the plate, Torrian Wright led the Lady Tigers, going 2-for-2 with three RBI and a home run.

Wright, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) preseason player of the year, leads the team from the plate, batting .600 with 21 hits, 22 RBI and 10 home runs after 15 games.

Against Grambling State, Amber Hallman led the team from the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a home run. Eichenlaub had a stellar outing, picking up her fourth win of the season with 7.0 innings in the circle. She allowed one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts.

The Lady Tigers racked up 10 hits in their win over Alabama A&M on Saturday. They scored all seven runs in the sixth inning. Alexis Singleton, Molly Lillis, and Wright all had two hits in the win.

Amanda Hallman picked up her second pitching win this season after a full 7.0 innings. She allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits with eight strikeouts.

In the first of the final two games on Sunday, SSU fell to Jackson State to open the day. Seven Lady Tigers had a single hit in the game. Amber Hallman recorded her sixth home run of the season. Ama. Hallman took the loss from the mound, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and six strikeouts.

Later in the day, SSU fell to Mississippi Valley State, despite a late rally. MSVS put up three runs in the second inning, and SSU respond with a single run in the bottom of the third.

Trailing by two points, SSU cut MSVS's lead to one point, as Amb. Hallman scored Lillis after the freshman reached on a single. Wright walked to put the tying run into scoring position. A strikeout and a fly out, however, ended SSU's chances at the rally.

SSU racked up seven hits as a team in the game. Hallman and Singleton led with a hit and an RBI each. Eichenlaub took the loss on the mound after 7.0 innings of work. She allowed three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

As a team, the Lady Tigers are batting .298 on the season with 125 hits, 30 home runs, and 88 RBI after 15 games. They are 6-9 on the season.

The Lady Tigers continue the 2015 campaign with a trip to Athens to play the University of Georgia on Tuesday, March 10. The doubleheader gets kicked off at 2 p.m.
