Outdoor Track and Field Host Tiger Orange And Blue

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State men's and women's track and field teams continued the outdoor season at Ted Wright Stadium in Savannah, Ga. on Saturday with the Tiger Orange and Blue Classic.
 
The Tigers picked up several top ten finishes on their home track. Leading the group was senior Cameron Hall who ran a 14.34 in the 110 meter hurdles for a first place finish.
 
Hall, who's won three consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) hurdles titles, was selected to compete in the USATF Indoor Track & Field Championship in Boston, Mass recently. He competed in the 60 meter hurdles and finished fifth, posting a personal best record of 7.83.
 
In the 4x100 meter relay, the SSU team of Donterious Copeland, Brandon Davis, Hall, and Shakir Lemaar grabbed the top spot with a time of 42.10.
 
Elsewhere on the track, Justin Leggett earned two second place finishes in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash's, with times of 11.04 and 22.45, respectively.
 
SSU newcomer Corey Jones finished third in the 800m dash with a time of 1:56.98. Lemaar finished second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.64, and third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.34.
 
In the field, freshman Malik Franklin led the Tigers, earning a first place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.29 meters. Copeland finished in fifth in the same event with a 14.06m.
 
Franklin finished the long jump in second place with a distance of 7.09m. In the discus throw, Derrick Akins finished third with a toss of 44.02m. Dual sport student-athlete (defensive back for SSU football) Connor Christian registered a throw of 12.45m in the shot put for sixth place.
 
Asea Gilmore led the Lady Tigers on the track. Gilmore finished first in the 800m dash with a time of 2:19.36.
 
In the 100m hurdles, Jaymi White finished third with a time of 15.62, followed by Desiree Allen in fourth with a time of 16.97. Miara Elmore finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.22.
 
Elmore also help lead the Lady Tigers in the triple jump event, finishing second with a distance of 10.86m. She also garnered a third place finish in the long jump with a distance of 4.85m.
 
In the pole vault, Kortney Sizemore finished second with a distance of 3.05m, followed in third place by teammate Alysia Potts, who recorded a distance of 2.95m.
 
Dual sport athlete (volleyball) Chanita Taylor finished fourth in the high jump with a distance of 1.47m, followed by Ravyn Mike in fifth with a distance of 1.37m.
 
SSU continues the 2015 outdoor season with the Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 20.
