Box Score 2 SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State split a double-header with Maryland-Eastern Shore at games played at the SSU Softball Field.
SSU won the opener 12-2 but fell in the second game 12-9. It was Savannah State's first home loss of the season.
In the first game, Savannah State scored six runs in the bottom of the first as
Torrian Wright hit a three-run home run,
Kylie Tierce hit a two-run home run and
Ashley Eichenlaub walked and later scored .
The Hawks scored twice in the top of the second but SSU answered with six more runs in the fifth off of five hits.
Alexis Singleton and
Amber Hallman hit RBI singles while Eichenlaub singled and scored on a ground out by
Brianna Harris and
Antonette Smith hit a three-run double.
Wright and Smith drove in three runs apiece for SSU. Singleton, Wright,
Tia Bolden, Tierce and Eichenlaub all scored twice.
Eichenlaub pitched a complete game and scattered six hits to earn the victory.
Morgan King and Trenece Nash each had a pair of hits for UMES while Kaitlyn Hitch was tagged with the loss. Hitch gave up six runs, three hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning.
In the second game, UMES jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning after Vanessa Gomez hit a two-run homer.
Eastern Shore increased their lead to 7-0 in the top of the third after scoring five runs off three hits.
The Lady Tigers struck for six runs in the bottom half of the inning, collecting four hits.
Hallman hit a two-run double and later scoring on an error and Smith blasted a three-run homer over the right field fence.
