Dimitrova Wins Fifth Match; Lady Tigers Fall To George Mason

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Savannah State women's tennis first court player, and SSU sophomore, Kamelia Dimitrova picked up her fifth win this season as the Lady Tigers dropped a Monday match to George Mason, 1-4.

Dimitrova won the opening set with Morgan Yang, 6-3, but fell in the second 4-6, forcing a tie-breaker. The Sofia, Bulgaria native won the tie-breaker 10-5. She improves to 5-2 on the season.

Sandy Lochu won the opening set of her singles competition with Jane Awad in the second court, 6-3. Awad was leading 5-3 in the second set, but the match was suspended due to inclement weather, forfeiting the point for either team.  

In the third court of singles action, Jennyfer Vivas fell to Marijke Boers in straight sets, 1-6 and 1-6. Tiffany Williams dropped the fourth court to Esu Erdencbut 0-6 and 1-6. Bria Burrows fell to Olivia Lacy-Thompson in the fifth court, 0-6 and 1-6.

Dimitrova and Lochu teamed up in doubles action to defeat Lacy-Thompson and Scarlett Walston 8-1 in the first court. As a team, Dimitrova and Lochu improve to 5-2 in doubles competition this season.

Vivas and Burrows fell to Brittany Pilkington and Mina Sygij in the second doubles court, 0-8. George Mason won the third doubles court by default, securing the doubles' point.

SSU falls to 2-5 on the season. They return home on Tuesday with two matches against Coastal Carolina and Western Carolina.
