Men's Track & Field

Track & Field Heads To MEAC Indoor Championship

LANDOVER, Md. – Savannah State's indoor track and field teams will compete in the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship this coming week in Landover, Maryland.
 
The championship is set to run February 12-14 at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex. Savannah State will field 12 men and four women in the championship.
 
For men's track and field, Lemaar Shakir and Cameron Hall will run in the 60 meter hurdles. Corey Jones is set to run in the 800m, while Brandon Davis is set to compete in the 400m, and Justin Leggett will run in the 200m dash.
 
Donterius Copeland, Davis, Hall and Shakir will compete in the 4x400 relay, while Copeland, Davis, Micah Richards and Michael Smith are set to run in the distance medley.
 
Representing the Tigers in field events will be Dolphurs Hayes (pole vault), dual sport athlete Connor Christian (shot put), Derrick Akins (weight throw), and Malik Franklin (triple jump and long jump.)
 
The Lady Tigers will be represented by Jaymi White (pentathlon and long jump), Alisha Potts (pole vault), Kortney Sizemore (pole vault), and Asea Mayfield (800 meter dash).

Competition will begin on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the men's heptathlon followed by the women's 5,000m and women's long jump at 3:15 p.m.  The day continues with the men's 5,000m and semi-finals of the men's and women's 200m races. Day one concludes with the men's long jump final.

The championships continue Friday, February 13, with the men's heptathlon at 9 a.m. Other field events on Friday's slate includes the women's pentathlon, men's and women's high jump, and men's and women's weight throw. The student-athletes return to the track for the semifinals in the men's and women's 60m hurdles, 60m dash and 400m dash. The day closes out with the men's and women's distance medleys.

The competition concludes on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m., with the women's shot put, men's and women's pole vault, and the men's and women's triple jump. Running events begin at 1 p.m. with the women's mile run.  Rounding out the afternoon's events will be the men's and women's 4x400m relay race at 3:25 p.m.
