GREENSBORO, N.C. –The Savannah State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams recorded nine top-five finishes in SSU's first indoor meet of the season at the UNCG Early Bird 7-Way, while the men's and women's went 2-1 each during the dual meet.
 
The men's team defeated Furman (124.00-99.00) and host UNC Greensboro (118.00-110.00), but fell to USC Upstate (135.00-106.00).  The women's team defeated Furman (115.00-22.00) and host UNC Greensboro (111.00-90.00), but fell to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent of South Carolina State (159.00-96.00).
 
On the men's side, the top-five finishes were Henry Jenkins finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.53 seconds and fourth in the high jump with a distance of 1.80 meters, Nigel Brown finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.96 seconds, Savannah State A 4x400 meter relay team of Todd Woodring, Donterious Copeland, Brandon Davis and Morgan Ellis-Foster finished third with a time of 3:24.47 and Savannah State B team of Javon Leary, Justin Leggett, Nigel Brown and Laron James finished fifth with a time of 3:32.49 and Copeland finished fourth in the high jump with a jump of 6.64 meters,
 
On the women's side, the top-five finishes were Sholonda Snell finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 26.47, Kiana Robinson finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.47, while the Savannah State 4x400 meter relay team of Jahmee Reeves, Robinson, Miara Elmore and Tyneshia Quarterman finished second with a time of 4:08.55.
 
Eleven more student-athletes placed in the top-10 with six on the men's side and five on the women's side. 
 
On the men's side, Randy Thomas finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.59, while Morgan Ellis-Foster finished a spot behind in seventh with a time of 8.74.  Justin Leggett finished seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.01, while Brandon Davis finished seventh in the 400-meter run with a time of 51.81 and Antwuan Poole finished ninth with a time of 52.11.  Randolph Barratt finished 10^th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.85.
 
On the women's side, Asia Stinson finished eighth with a time of 7.75 seconds in the 60-meter dash, followed by teammate Destiny Hall, who finished ninth with a time of 7.89 seconds.  Reeves finished 10^th in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:03.80, while Lawren Crawford finished 10^th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:43.10.  Alysia Potts finished 10^th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.22.
 
Other men's results includes Javon Leary with an 11^th place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.20 seconds, while Woodring finished 11^th in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.11 and Andre Houser-Cross finished with a time of 54.16.
 
Other women's results includes Quarterman with a time of 8.01 seconds in the 60-meter dash for 15^th place, while five student-athletes finished outside the top-10 in the long jump.  The Lady Tigers were led by Miara Elmore with a distance of 4.80 meters, followed by Nadine Missouri with a jump of 4.77 meters for 12^th place.  Ravyn Mike finished 15^th with a jump of 4.70 meters, followed by Mia McLean with a distance of 4.62 meters and Seleema Gadson, who finished 18^th with a jump of 4.44 meters.
 
The track and field teams are back in action on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 with a meet at Tennessee State in Nashville, Tenn.
