SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University women's basketball team (1-0) begins a three-game stretch against Southeastern Conference opponents beginning with hosting Auburn University (2-1) in Tiger Arena on Sunday at 4 p.m.
 
The last time the Lady Tigers hosted an SEC team, SSU defeated the University of Florida 68-58 last season.
 
SSU and AU faced each other on the court last season as the Tigers comeback bid fell short and lost by six, 62-56, as SSU trailed by as much as 17 points late in the second half.
 
Last time out, the Lady Tigers defeated Columbia College 101-34 on Friday, Nov. 13.  Junior forward Jeremica Edwards led the team with 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting in 20 minutes and added four steals, three assists and two rebounds, while junior guard Kenyata Hendrix added 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting, including 3-for-6 at the 3-point line in 27 minutes and added two assists and four rebounds.
 
Junior center Tiyonda Davis recorded a team-high six rebounds with 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting for a percentage of .833.  Davis added two assists, three blocks and two steals and was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week last Monday.
 
After a game, Savannah State leads the National Collegiate Athletic Association in scoring margin (67.0), second in field goal percentage (.577), third in steals per game (21.0), fourth in assists per game (26.0) and in turnover margin (18.00), fifth in field goal percentage defense (.200) and in scoring defense (34.0) and seventh in scoring offense (101.0).  The Lady Tigers lead the MEAC in assists per set, field goal percentage, field goal percentage defense, scoring defense, scoring margin, scoring offense and steals per game.
 
Individually, Davis ranks 13th in the NCAA in field goal percentage (.833), which ranks first in the MEAC, while sophomore guard Lauryn Fields ranks 32nd in the NCAA in assists turnover ratio (5.00), which ranks second in the MEAC.  Edwards and Fields ranks 45th in the NCAA with 4.00 steals per game, which ranks first in the MEAC, while Davis ranks 38th in the NCAA with 3.00 blocks per set, which ranks second in the MEAC.

Auburn started the season 2-0, but lost to Virginia 69-52 on Thursday night.  Brandy Montgomery leads the Tigers with 18.0 points per game, while Janiah McKay has added 16.7 points per game.  Tra'Cee Tanner leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game and added 13. Points per game, while Katie Ferking has added 11.0 points per game.
 
The Lady Tigers continue facing SEC opponents with a trip to Gainesville, Fla., to face the University of Florida on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and then traveling to Starksville, Miss., on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 3 p.m.
