The GameThe Savannah State men's basketball team will start their quest for a championship on tonight as they host Florida National in Tiger Arena. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
SSU played two exhibition games prior to their regular season opener and came away with a pair of wins.
The Tigers defeated crosstown foe Armstrong State 91-84 on Nov. 3 and topped Limestone 90-82 on Nov. 9.
In the win over Armstrong, The Tigers were led by newcomers Chris Martin (28 points and five assists), Troyce Manessa (19 points and six rebounds) and
Lenjo Kilo (13 points and 11 rebounds).
SSU had five players in double figures against Limestone. Martin had 26 points and 6 assists, Isiah Felder had 15 points,
Casey Wells scored 11 while Linjo and Khalen Pinckett added 10 points apiece. Linjo also had 11 rebounds.
Horace Broadnax begins is 11
th season as head coach of the Tigers and is hoping to improve from last season's 9-22 campaign.
Savannah State played Florida National during the 2013-14 season and beat the Conquistadors 87-60 in Tiger Arena.
FNU enters the game with a 2-2 record with wins over Webber International and Ave Maria. FNU has lost to Johnson & Wales and St. Thomas.
The Conquistadors average 80.3 points and game while giving up 83.3 points a game.
