Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Midway through a nine-game home stand, the Lady Tigers split their final nonconference doubleheader on Wednesday with Mercer University.

SSU sophomore Amanda McDowell pitched an outstanding first game, leading the Lady Tigers to a 2-1 win. Mercer racked up nine hits and took advantage of four SSU errors for a 6-1 win in the nightcap.

The Lady Tigers are 16-13 heading into a 15-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) stretch in the last leg of the 2014 season. Mercer improved to 24-11 with the second game win. SSU broke a six-game winning streak for the Bears in the first game victory.

McDowell pitched a no-hitter through the first five innings of game one.  A double from Krista Kennedy in the top of the sixth inning broke up McDowell's flawless outing.

McDowell garnered her seventh win of the season, allowing only one earned run on two hits after 7.0 innings of work. She ended with a season-high 10 strikeouts and only three walks.

Mercer took the lead in the second inning, after plating a run on a wild pitch.
SSU answered in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore Torrian Wright blasted her 10th home run of the season, plating India Morgan, who reached on a single. Wright leads the team and the MEAC in homers this season, and is 10th in the nation in home runs per game.

The runs held through the final two and a half innings as McDowell recorded her final four strikeouts for the win.

The Bears opened the nightcap with two runs on two hits for a lead they would not relinquish. SSU responded in the bottom of the second with a double from Amanda Hallman that scored Wright.

Mercer held its 2-1 lead through the fourth inning. The Bears tacked on two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth for the final score. Mercer racked up nine hits in the contest.

Riley Carter was tagged with her fourth pitching win of the season after a complete game. She allowed one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts.

Hallman was tagged with her eighth loss. She allowed six runs (two earned) on nine hits with six walks and eight strikeouts. Hallman led the team from plate, going 2-for-3.

The Lady Tigers open MEAC play on Saturday with a doubleheader against Southern Division rival's Florida A&M on the Tiger Softball Field in Savannah. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
