Softball Sweeps Twinbill With Miles College

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Lady Tigers followed up two wins against Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday with two more back-to-back wins on Thursday.

SSU swept a nonconference doubleheader with 4-1, and 6-3 wins over the visiting Miles College on the Tiger Softball Field.

The Lady Tigers improved to 15-12 on the season. SSU will play one more nonconference twinbill, against Mercer on March 26, before opening a 15-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) stretch on March 29 against Florida A&M.

SSU sophomore Torrian Wright blasted a single into left field, scoring Megan Uhrman and Antonette Smith to lift the Lady Tigers to a 2-0 lead in the third inning of game one on Thursday.

The Lady Tigers plated runs in the fourth and fifth innings behind a home run from Amber Hallman and a double from Smith. Miles scored a single run in the top of the fifth for the final score.

Amanda McDowell picked up her seventh pitching win of the season after a complete game. She allowed one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.

Kayla Balnchard was tagged with her fifth loss after 6.0 innings of work. She allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts.

SSU scored three runs in the first inning of the second game. Wright recorded her 9th home run of the season, scoring India Morgan. Amber Hallman doubled to reach and was platted by her sister Amanda Hallman on a single to centerfield.

Three fast middle innings left SSU with a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning. Miles College scored two runs on two hits in the fifth, cutting the Lady Tigers' lead to 3-2.

SSU responded in kind in the bottom of the inning. Wright doubled, scoring Morgan. Later, Wright scored on a throwing error, lifting the Lady Tigers to a 5-2 advantage.

The Lady Tigers sealed up the 6-3 victory in the sixth inning. Uhrman singled to right, platting Aaaliyah Jones, who walked.

Ama. Hallman garnered her eighth pitching win after a complete game in the circle. Hallman allowed three runs (no earned) on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Talana Brown was tagged with the loss after 5.0 innings of work. She allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits with three walks and no strikeouts.

Wright led the Lady Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Morgan followed going 2-for-4.
