Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AUBURN, Ala. -  Savannah State opened the 2014 War Eagle Softball Classic hosted by Auburn University on Friday with a win over Alabama A&M and a loss to Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne.

SSU downed Alabama A&M 10-4 in the opening game of the tournament. It was the Lady Tigers second win over A&M this season. They beat them 4-2 in the Tiny Laster tournament at the beginning of the month.

Freshman pitcher Amanda Hallman led the Lady Tigers with a full game in the circle. She allowed 4 earned runs on 6 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Hallman improved to 6-6 on the season.

The Lady Tigers plated three runs in the first inning. Alabama A&M added a single run in the second. SSU sophomore Torrian Wright and newcomer Kylie Tierce both hit 3-run homers in the bottom of the second to lift SSU to a 9-1 lead.

A&M plated runs in the 4th and 6th, but the Lady Tigers big second inning was too much to overcome.

Ama. Hallman led the Lady Tigers at the plate as well, going 3-for-4. India Morgan and Amber Hallman recorded doubles in the win. SSU racked up 11 hits in the win.

In the second game, SSU fell to IPFW 0-8 in five innings. SSU stranded seven runners in the game behind only two hits. The Mastodons scored 8 runs on 5 hits. Hillary Kartman scored the winning run in the fifth inning on a walk.

IPFW's Megan Flenniken garnered the pitching win. She allowed no runs on 2 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

SSU sophomore Amanda McDowell was tagged with her fourth loss of the season after 4.1 innings of work. She allowed 8 runs (6 earned) on 5 hits with 8 walks and 9 strikeouts.

The 11-10 Lady Tigers continue the tournament on Saturday with games against Radford University and host Auburn University.
