Softball Opens Osprey Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Lady Tigers opened the 2014 Osprey Invitational on Friday with two losses to Southern Illinois and host North Florida. SSU fell 4-8 in the first game, and 2-11 in the nightcap.

SSU continues the tournament with two games on Saturday against Ohio University and Troy University. They will close out the tournament on Sunday with a rematch against Southern Illinois.

In the opening game, SSU put up four runs in the opening inning behind hits from Torrian Wright, Amber Hallman and Amanda McDowell. SIU scored a single run on an errant play from the Lady Tigers in the second. Into the third inning, SSU led 4-3.

SIU pushed away from the Lady Tigers behind a four run, one hit third inning that lifted them to a 7-4 lead. SSU went scoreless through the remaining four innings, stranding three runners on three hits. SIU scored one run in the fifth inning for the final score.

SSU Freshman Amanda Hallman pitched a complete game and was tagged with her first loss of the season. She allowed 8 runs (6 earned) on 5 hits with 7 walks and 2 strikeouts. Megan Uhrman led the Lady Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-3 on the day.

Shaye Harre garnered her first pitching with after 5.1 innings of work. She allowed no runs on 2 hits against 20 batters.

In the nightcap, SSU went scoreless through the first two innings. Into the third, North Florida held a 1-0 lead. The Osprey's put up two runs on a hit to expand their lead going into the bottom of the inning.

SSU dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the third behind a single from Wright that scored India Morgan.

UNF added two more runs in the top of the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth for a 7-1 advantage into the bottom of the sixth inning. Ama. Hallman was plated on a single from Antonette Smith after being walked. It was the last run the Lady Tigers managed in the game.

The Osprey's closed out the 7th with 4 runs on 3 hits, including a big double from Kelly Wilson. The Lady Tigers were unable to respond in the bottom of the inning, as UNF sealed up their sixth win of the season.

McDowell was tagged with her second loss of the season after a complete 7.0 innings of work. She allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 9 hits with 8 walks.

Kayla Goff garnered her second pitching win of the season after 7.0 innings. She allowed 2 earned runs on 8 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts.

The Lady Tigers were led at the plate by Uhrman and Hallman, who each went 2-for-2. Wilson led the Ospreys', going 3-for-3 at the plate.
